TFmCE - And then there were three - 9 September 2013

The initial "IN" list of Peets530 riders for The Flattest (metric) Century in the East filled pages. A few days prior to the ride, the count was down to five. By 7am Sunday morning, well, then there were three. Rick R, Brian S, and I ended up enjoying a beautiful day, a spirited pace, ... and roads mostly to ourselves.

By my GPS, we rolled from UMass Darthmouth at 7:07am. Sort of by chance, sort of by design, we soon found ourselves engulfed by a Cape group known to Jim and Cynthia. Except for speed, direction, and communication, they were a consistent group [grin], so we forged ahead, likely dropping them for good as we skipped the first rest stop.

As we made our way around the first part of the 67+ mile loop, we at first passed the occasional rider, then no one. We rolled into the rest stop at the 38 mile mark to find it staffed with volunteers, bountiful with food, stocked with clean porta-potties, ... and absent any other riders. While replenishing, we learned that we were the first to come through. Since we weren't passed the rest of the way, that made us the first to finish the metric century.
