Newburyport-Exeter NH-Newburyport - May 2010

Charles River Wheelmen ride from Newburyport to Exeter NH and back. I headed out with the "fast group" for the 61 mile version of the ride (there were also 25 and 45 mile loops). That strategy worked well for the first half of the ride ... until the group of six I was with became the group of five I wasn't with, courtesy of a long climb about 3 miles shy of the mid-point lunch spot, Me & Ollies. I figured I'd rejoin at the break, but they must have skipped it. I was happy with my 18.1 mph average speed, especially since some route uncertainty the last 3 miles slowed my pace. I paid the price on the second half of the ride, most of it by myself and with dead legs from my ride the day before and this day's first 30--15.6 mph for the second 30 resulted in an overall 16.7 mph. Overall, an excellent ride with great scenery, relatively little traffic, and mostly smooth roads. back to portfolio back to deepbrook home
