Marty Cross - 19 October 2013
Marty Cross, presented by Marty's Reliable Cycle in NJ, marked my overcoming a recurring cyclocross bugaboo. Did I go all out at the start to pick up places before the hole shot? No, that wasn't it. Did I finally master a muddy, off-camber descent? No, not it either. Bunny hop a barrier to overtake a rider ahead? Negative, Ghost Rider.

No, a simple action saved me a set of wheels. All season, I've been considering bringing a spare set of wheels to place in the pit. A pinch flat during a practice ride earlier in the week convinced me that the time was right. But would I remember to pick them up after the race?

Then, a bugaboo-overcoming Eureka. I'll let the photos below tell the story.

The race was fun too--a fair amount of elevation change, a tricky descent, a steep climb, and not enough dismounting to make Bob the J happy.

The numbers (Strava)
  • Distance: 5.7mi
